Wiz’s story

Check Mate

“I can hit anything.”

CrewWiz

StealthRequired

Check Mate is the first mission in Wiz’s alternative story. It’s only available if Baker steals the disk from Whitey when he tries to sell it. Baker sneaks a readout into Rockay Plains Correction Facility, and Wiz needs to smuggle out his response. He hides it inside several chess pieces and pays Santos $50,000 to transport them out of the prison—but first, he needs to get them out of his cell.

Strategy

If a prison guard walks by Wiz’s cell as he throws a piece, he will call in a stealth strike. After three strikes, the mission ends in failure. Players can avoid strikes by throwing a practice piece at the prison guard nearest Wiz as he reaches the leftmost point of his patrol, permanently freezing him in place.

Hit the toilet with a chess piece */3

Players can toss the practice pieces outside the cell to judge their trajectories, but Santos won’t call his laundry contact until Wiz gets three in the toilet. If Wiz runs out of practice pieces first, he fails the mission.

Drop a chess piece into the laundry cart */1

There are five chess pieces with hidden messages, so Wiz can afford to miss four times. There’s no rush, since the cart will keep coming back until he gets one in or runs out of pieces.

Consequences

The chess pieces contain a note to Baker, asking him to plant a sniffer in a local bank to gather data. Once Wiz has the information from the device, he can decode the disk from inside prison.

If the player ignores or fails the mission, Wiz goes to solitary confinement, and Nasara finds another way to decode the disk in 6–7 days.
