Last Man Standing is the third mission in Ranger’s story. Shortly after his dream about securing the Red Star from a VC bunker, he remembers how the extraction left his squad stranded—and outnumbered.

Strategy

Take the M60

Defend the left flank

Waves of Viet Cong soldiers will fire on Ranger and his compatriots from the ridge. Ranger can take cover behind the rotting logs and kill them as they appear.

Stay alive

After a while, more Viet Cong attack from the right. Ranger can use the helicopter to block their line of sight and let his fellow GI soldiers draw their fire while he maintains focus on the ridge.

Move to the helicopter

Eventually, another helicopter lands in the mountains above to extract Ranger. He should ascend immediately after eliminating a next wave of Viet Cong, since he can’t defend himself while climbing. At the top, several more Viet Cong assail him from the left as he makes his escape.

Consequences

After Ranger escapes, he returns to heisting with the rest of Baker’s crew, until his dreams return and remind him of the day he fell into a coma. If instead Ranger is killed in the nightmare, he dies in real life as well.
